Founded by a group of local physicians who were passionate about serving the city's expanding population, ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte's original 50-bed hospital opened on June 4, 1962. There were three full-time physicians and one part-time physician associated with ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte at this time.
Since then, this small, one-story community hospital has grown into a 254-bed Joint Commission Accredited full service hospital that is appropriately known as: Your Hospital for Life.ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte is committed to caring for people throughout their cycle of life, including welcoming newborns, preventing illness, providing acute care, managing declining health, and ensuring compassionate care for the dying. ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte is a 254-bed Joint Commission Accredited full-service hospital that serves residents in Charlotte, Sarasota, and Desoto counties. ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte staff includes roughly 900 Associates, with over 300 physicians representing more than 40 specialties. Supporting our health care staff are over 200 volunteers who donate thousands of service hours each year.

- Licensed Obstetric and Pediatric Units, as well as Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in Charlotte County
