There are many incredible individuals in the Port Charlotte community who do the most important jobs with few accolades. In addition to performing the requirements of their job description with finesse, they also invest their time into others, show compassion, inspire and influence us, and encourage us in challenging times. In May, we have two opportunities to officially honor them and to express our gratitude for all of their dedication and commitment. National Teachers Week is May 7-13 and National Nurses Week is celebrated May 6-12. Port Charlotte Florist has seen the impact that beautiful floral arrangement can have in making someone feel appreciated, and we look forward to helping you to let your favorite teachers and nurses know just how much what they do matters!
Coincidental Fact: According to a recent census, there are approximately 3.1 million teachers in the United States, while the number of nurses is also 3.1 million! Read More about Special Gifts for Nurses & Teachers »

Here at Port Charlotte Florist - and for that matter, in South Florida - we love our dogs! And because we recognize that they are such a huge part of our lives, we admire initiatives such as National Puppy Day that strive to make life better for these beloved animals. Initiated a decade ago by Colleen Paige - who is also the pet-advocate behind the establishment of National Dog Day and National Cat Day - this grassroots effort was intended to shine a light on the desperate plight of the homeless puppies and dogs in America. The day stands as a reminder to prospective pet owners to adopt puppies from shelters instead of from for-profit organizations.
Did You Know? Due to serious overpopulation, a puppy born in 2017 will have only a 1 in 10 chance of spending their entire life in a loving, stable home. Read More about National Puppy Day Emphasizes Adoption Crisis »

Spring is a bit different in South Florida. In fact, while others are still struggling to get rid of the last remnants of snow and ice, we are experiencing some of the most glorious weather of the year, And although the difference between winter and spring is not as dramatic here, we do have reasons to celebrate the new season - like the fact that we have longer days to spend enjoying paradise. As floral designers, we love the springtime and the many new colors, textures, and varieties that we have in our flower shop. International Women's Day has been growing in momentum since its establishment in 1910, when a handful of women in the Soviet Bloc nations decided to stand up to be counted. The initiative really picked up steam when the UN decided to sanction the movement in the 1970's. And with the addition of online forums and virtual global gatherings, the effort has further and further reach. The original intent was to fight for social justice, equality, and rights for women, and in many parts of the globe that is still the main concern. In the West, the day has evolved more towards celebrating the accomplishments and achievements of women in all aspects of society. This March 8th, we will once again honor the pioneers and visionaries that came before us, as well as the women currently taking the world by storm.
